Airtex Fuels Success with Cornerstone Communications' Electronic Document Management Solution
Airtex Products is the world's largest independent manufacturer of fuel pumps and water pumps for original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) and the aftermarket. Founded in 1935 when Benjamin J. Frankel and his associates in Fairfield, IL, began manufacturing replacement parts for Chevrolets and Fords, the company has become a global presence today with nine plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England and Spain. Airtex Products estimated that they were manually processing an average of over 600 documents per week, with another 200 miscellaneous documents per month. From purchase orders and forecast requirements to A/R Statements, they needed a more efficient, cost-effective electronic document management solution that would be compatible with their legacy systems.
According to Shawn Levi, Network Administrator for Airtex, "In this industry, time is money. We needed to find a way to access information on our AS/400s and distribute it more efficiently while keeping our costs down." The company’s primary goal was to find a system with the ability to handle both inbound and outbound faxes or e-mails and enable anyone within the company to process faxed orders directly from the desktop. Airtex consulted with the electronic document management experts at Cornerstone Communications to assist them in adapting their current business processes for optimum performance.
Cornerstone Communications’ document management experts worked with Airtex’s technical team to implement an electronic solution that would improve their company’s core competencies, while at the same reducing their fax, phone and printing expenses. That solution was Unifier-- Cornerstone’s enterprise-wide Electronic Document Management (EDM) software. "Unifier enables us to function much more profitably. We have only had Unifier for one year and have already received a full ROI. We have only scratched the surface of its true saving potential. Not only do our documents now arrive at their destination faster; they require much less administrative assistance," Levi said.
Cornerstone installed Unifier for Airtex in June of 2001 and reports that they are extremely pleased with the results. "Cornerstone’s technical team helped us get everything in place and educated our staff in 1.5 days. Since we have implemented Unifier, we have saved a significant amount of time and money, with payback within a year. Now I walk around the office and say, this is really nice, no more waiting on the mail distribution because our orders are now faxed directly to and from our desktops. We are unbelievably happy with the performance of Unifier," Levi concluded.
